Almost three years ago the idea to collect shoes in Adelaide for re-distribution around the world was born. It was an idea which sparked a community of action Australia-wide, resulting in:
- More than 100,000 pairs of shoes collected from all Australian states and territories – and growing;
- Shoes redistributed to people in Australia, Vanuatu, Guatemala and Africa;
- Hundreds of volunteers who have volunteered thousands of hours to collecting, sorting, packing and transporting shoes for re-distribution;
- Approx. 50,000kgs of potential waste saved from prematurely ending up in landfill, consistent with global sustainability initiatives; and
- A partnership with Wesley Social Enterprises which provides meaningful employment in South Australia for people with disabilities.
As the Founder and Director of Soles4Souls Australia (The Butterfly Movement Ltd.) I am grateful for the support of the individuals, schools, businesses and community groups in changing lives through the donation of shoes and funds. We could have only achieved the successes with you! Thank you.
Today I am very pleased to share with you some exciting news; we have hired a part-time General Manager to help lead the organisation to greater heights. The Board of Directors and I are really looking forward to revealing our newest team member to you in coming weeks who is beginning in early-May. Stay tuned!
The new General Manager position has become available because I have recently accepted the role of Director of Community Engagement with Saint Ignatius College in South Australia. Remaining on the Board of Directors I will continue to be actively involved in the organisation I have volunteered more than 5,000 hours to shape.
